American Welding Society becomes Global Industry Partner

In March 2015, WorldSkills International CEO, David Hoey, and Sponsorship and Partnership Director, Alexander Amiri had a chance to visit with the American Welding Society (AWS) Headquarters to reflect on the past year of partnership and elaborate on the future collaboration. After a year as Global Supporter, AWS has had a chance to better understand the great assets and value propositions that WorldSkills offers to its partners and has decided to become a Global Industry Partner.

“This partnership is an interactive program, and on behalf of AWS, it’s a conscious effort to be involved,” AWS Corporate Director, International Sales, Jeff Kamentz said.

During the meeting between AWS and WorldSkills, the future of welding skills and the joint efforts between Lincoln Electric and AWS were discussed.

“Together, we have a better offering to the world. We can open up doors. Why do it individually?” Carl Peters, Lincoln Electric’s Director of Technical Training, said.

Some of the joint initiatives that Lincoln Electric and AWS will be conducting during WorldSkills São Paulo 2015 are chocolate welding, virtual welding, and co-branded paper welding masks which will thrill the kids in Brazil. As well as the Mini WorldSkills Competition amongst all SENAI welding related schools that SENAI, AWS and Lincoln are currently working on.

“We are delighted to continue and extend the collaboration with AWS, since their welding standards are globally recognized and with this partnership we can help a lot more Member countries and regions to improve their welding capacities to the best level globally,” says David Hoey, CEO of WorldSkills International.
