Moving towards electronic marking at the WorldSkills Competition is an ambition long held by the Technical Committee of WorldSkills International and thanks to Global Industry Partner, Samsung, WorldSkills is one step closer to achieving this goal.

Samsung has provided six GALAXY Tabs to WorldSkills International for use in developing the Competition Information System (CIS) for mobile devices as well as a pilot project to reduce paper required to print marking schemes. Select skill competitions at WorldSkills Leipzig 2013 will benefit from this technology, making it easier and more efficient for Experts to complete their assessment.

John Shiel, Chair of the Technical Committee is a strong advocator of the project. He said:

“We are very grateful to Samsung for providing us with these GALAXY Tabs. Using technology will help us to reduce paper which is an important environmental concern at the same time as improving the efficiency of our marking systems, thereby providing benefits to the entire process.”

Dr Song, Executive Vice President and Senior Advisor at Samsung Electronics commented:

“We are delighted to be able to support the development of WorldSkills in this way. Our business is all about finding innovative solutions using technology and helping to improve the WorldSkills Competition experience for both Experts and Competitors is a key aim for Samsung in our role as a Global Industry Partner.”

The results of the pilot in Leipzig will be reviewed following the Competition and if successful WorldSkills International will look at the possibility of extending electronic assessment across all skills competitions.
