The 2014 Skills Canada National Competition was a huge success!

The 20th anniversary of the Skills Canada National Competition that took place earlier in June in Toronto marked an huge milestone for Canada.

Over 500 of Canada’s best skilled trade and technology students and apprentices competed in 43 skills. The country’s top industry leaders and government officials were on hand, including the Canadian Minister of Employment and Social Development, Jason Kenney, who addressed Competitors and partners and announced additional funding to Skills/Compétences Canada.

This year, the theme of Essential Skills was emphasized, as visiting students were tasked with identifying which of the nine Essential Skills were being used in each of the over 40 Try-A-Trade and Technology activities.

New demonstration skills in 2014 were Steamfitter/Pipefitter and Photography. Robotics Control System was offered as a presentation skill.

'[SCNC] is truly a “one of a kind” event. We think that it has great value for the youth of Canada in the way that it educates, informs, showcases, connects, and builds on the skilled trades and technology fields of work. We believe that it is truly a great program for our future.” - Larry Slaney, Canadian Director of Training, UA Canada
